Itinerary for diving
Day 1
Boat
will leave the dive centre at 08.30 and head on
to the Daymaniyat Islands; divers will do two
dives at two different dive sites and return
back to the dive centre around 14.00-14.30.
Daymaniyat Islands
A
group of 9 islands protected by UNESCO since 21
years, sanctuary for migrating birds and Oman’s
premier nature reserve. These islands offer 12
dive sites located 35 minutes from the Dive
Centre, beautiful coral gardens, reefs, walls,
large pelagic fish, turtles, rays, leopard
sharks and our old friend the whale shark is a
frequent visitor!!!
The
islands are formed from ancient fossil reefs and
limestone that have emerged from the ocean. Some
of the richest coral cover and best coral reef
development in Oman occur in these islands, and
they are the proposed site for the country's
first national marine nature reserve.
The
Daymaniyats islands consist of many submerged
rocks, in an east to west alignment, which form
the base for well developed coral reefs.
Abundant coral growth extends to up to 20 m
depth, in water that has the highest clarity of
any coral growing area in Oman. The
species-abundance structure for this area is
magnificent.
Day 2
The divers will go
in a different direction to the Fahal Island;
boats leave at 08.30 and are back around 14.00.
Fahal Island provides 6 dive sites (max. depth
40 meters) and 2 wrecks to discover at 30
meters. Also offers dive site “shallow reef (40
meters)” for more experienced divers. Reefs of
Al Fahal Island offer some of the most beautiful
reefs and abundant diverse coral overage to be
found in Oman. Of the 39 genera of corals that
have been found pinnacles which range in depth
from 17 to 35 m.
Fahal Island dives often involve fining through
an 'L-shaped' tunnel through the island. The
island attracts many sharks, namely black tip
reef sharks and lemon sharks, some of which are
around 4m in length. There are many table and
brain corals surrounding the island.
Day 3
The
divers will make a trip to see the Al
Munassir Wreck; the 3,000 ton ship was sunk
in 30 meters of water in the turquoise waters of
Bandar Khairan close to the country’s capital,
Muscat. Boats will leave dive centre at 08.30
and be back around 14.30
Day 4
Divers will have the pleasure of exploring
Bandar Khairan, a large area of outstanding
beauty, with rocky outcrops, deserted beaches
and small islands accessible only by boat. The
underwater scenery does not disappoint with
stunning rock falls, picturesque walls and reefs
festooned with colorful arrays of coral and
tropical fish. Bandar Khairan offers shallow bay
dives and deep wall
dives.
Day 5
To
the divers delight we will revisit the
Daymaniyat Islands, but this time two totally
new dive sites, the Aquarium and the Hayut, both
sites are at 26 m depth .
Hayut
For
those who want to get deeper into diving, this
site has the sheerest wall at the Daymaniyats.
The wall spreads east west, but being at the
furthest end of the island chain, the depth
rises gently from East to West. At the East end
the wall drops directly down to 25m with a
massive boulder only a couple of meters away.
Along the central part of the island, the wall
has released a scattering of rocks, which mixed
in with the red/purple soft coral, houses some
of the larger Moray Eels; the deep blue will
also flash at you large shoals of Batfish, Tuna
or even a Whale Shark!
